Privacy policy
INTRODUCTION
We take your privacy seriously.
Welcome to Funexpected, a studio of mathematicians, educators, designers, and developers building engaging educational games for kids.
Funexpected LTD ("Funexpected," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect through our website located at funexpectedapps.com (the "Website"), our mobile and tablet applications (the "Applications"), and any other services we make available through the Website and Applications (collectively, the "Services"), how we use and share that information, and the choices available to you.
Because our Services are designed for children to use under the direction of a parent or guardian, this Privacy Policy is written primarily for parents and guardians, and children should not provide us with any personal information without a parent or guardian's involvement.
This Privacy Policy was last updated on September 29, 2026. We may change or update this Privacy Policy at any time as we add new or different features, use new service providers, or as applicable laws change, and the updated version is effective as soon as it is posted. If we make a material change to this policy and we have your parent email address on file, we will contact you to tell you about the changes. You should review this Privacy Policy periodically.
This Privacy Policy is part of, and should be read together with, our Terms of Service, which describe your rights and responsibilities and ours when using the Services. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy or the Terms of Service, please do not use the Services.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or our privacy practices, please contact us — see Section "Contact Us" below.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
There are two types of information that may be collected. The first is "Personal Information" — personally identifiable information that allows someone to identify or contact you, such as your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, and any other non-public information associated with or linked to the foregoing. We collect Personal Information from you as a parent or adult — for example, when you create an account, make a purchase, or contact us. Our Applications are designed so that a child does not need to provide their own contact information to use them.
"Anonymous Information" means information that is not associated with or linked to your Personal Information and does not, by itself, permit identification of an individual.
A. Account Information
When you create a Funexpected account, we collect:
your email address;
a password (stored in hashed form — we do not store your plaintext password);
your preferred communication language.
B. Child/Player Information
When you set up a profile for your child, we collect:
your child's nickname;
an avatar your child selects;
your child's age.
C. Payment Information
App Store / Google Play: your purchase is processed entirely by Apple or Google. Funexpected does not receive or store your payment details — our systems only record your subscription's expiration date.
Website (via Stripe): your payment is processed by Stripe. Funexpected does not store your card number, and does not separately store the email or name from your Stripe payment record (we already have your account email from account creation, above).
D. Support Communications
When you contact us at support@funexpected.org, any information you choose to share with us in that message is available to us.
E. Feedback
We may occasionally send you optional feedback surveys via Typeform. Information you choose to provide in these surveys is processed by Typeform and is also available to us.
Information We Collect Automatically
We automatically collect the following information when you use our Applications or Website:
country;
state or region;
device model;
operating system and its version;
language set on your device;
IP address;
a unique, randomly generated identifier assigned to your device;
information about your use of the Applications, such as which activities and levels you access, time spent on tasks, correct and incorrect answers, hints used, and progress within missions and courses;
your subscription status;
which version of our Applications you use (e.g. iOS, Android, or web).
PURPOSES FOR PROCESSING YOUR DATA
We use the information described in the "Information We Collect" section above for the following purposes:
A. Providing and Improving the Services
to set up and manage your account, save your and your child's settings (such as language, sound settings, and game difficulty level) and progress, and recognize you when you return to our Applications;
to manage your subscription — for example, granting access to paid content and features, and tracking renewal and expiration dates. Payments themselves are processed by Apple, Google, or Stripe, not by Funexpected;
to deliver content localized into your language and relevant to your country;
to promptly identify and solve technical problems our Applications and users encounter;
to respond to the support requests you send us;
to improve our Applications and Website by analyzing aggregated data on how users engage with them;
to gather feedback on our Services through the optional surveys we send;
to estimate the size of our audience and understand user experience;
to ensure the stability and security of our Applications and Website.
B. Marketing Our Services
We may work with third-party advertising partners to show ads for Funexpected on other websites and apps. Where those ads appear can depend on the general subject matter of the site or app (e.g., a parenting blog or a children's learning app), or on broad characteristics of the audience being reached (e.g., people located in a particular country, or using a particular type of device).
When an adult installs our app or takes an action such as starting a free trial, information connected to that action — such as device or IP address information originally captured when you interacted with one of our ads — may be matched within our own systems. This helps us measure whether our advertising campaigns are working. We may also share certain personal information (e.g., IP address) with our advertising partners, who use it to help decide which adults should be shown our ads. None of this involves information from a child's profile.
We use the email address you provided when creating your account to send you promotional content about our Services, such as a newsletter or special offers. If you use our Applications, we may also send you promotional content through push notifications and in-app messages. You can opt out of these messages at any time, free of charge.
C. Legal Compliance and Protection
to comply with applicable law and legal process;
to enforce our agreements and protect the rights, property, and safety of Funexpected, our users, and others.
CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
Funexpected holds kidSAFE certification and participates in Apple's Kids Category and Google Play's Teacher Approved program.
Account creation is only available in the adult-facing parts of our Applications — during onboarding, or in Settings behind an age screen — so a child cannot create or access an account on their own.
When a parent sets up a profile for their child, we collect a nickname, an avatar, and the child's age. We do not collect a surname or any contact information from your child. A parent can update the avatar, the nickname, and the learning program/difficulty level for their child at any time in Settings. To change a child's age, please contact us at support@funexpected.org.
A parental gate sits between your child's play experience and any parent-only area of the app, such as settings, purchases, or subscription management, so a child cannot reach these areas unintentionally.
We do not show advertisements to children, and we do not use any information from a child's profile for advertising or marketing purposes (see "Marketing Our Services" above).
Retention and Deletion of Your Child's Information
A parent may delete their child's profile, or their entire account, directly in Settings at any time. If you are unable to do this yourself, you may also request deletion by contacting us at privacy@funexpected.org.
SCHOOL USE
Funexpected is available for individual teachers and schools (collectively, "Schools") to use as part of their educational curriculum. We've designed our Applications to collect as little personal information from students as possible, and the same privacy safeguards described throughout this policy apply to our Schools.
A School can sign up for Funexpected directly on our website and create a class for their students. When a School creates an account, we ask for some personal information about the teacher setting it up, as well as information about the School itself. This helps us verify the account.
When a School creates a class manually, we ask the teacher to provide a username or nickname and grade/class information for each student. When a School uses a supported rostering service — Apple School Manager (Apple Roster) or Clever — to create and administer accounts, we receive student information such as name, class, and grade level directly from that service, rather than collecting it ourselves.
Our privacy practices for School use are designed with the requirements of child and student data privacy laws in mind, including personal information that may be considered an "educational record" under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ("FERPA"), and personal information of students under 13 consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA").
As with our consumer Services, we do not use student information for marketing or advertising purposes, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes.
A School can remove an individual student, or delete an entire class, directly from their dashboard at any time.
HOW WE DISCLOSE THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT
If you are an adult, we may disclose your information to third parties as described below. For how we disclose your child's information, see "Children's Privacy" above. For how we disclose information collected through School use, see "School Use" above.
A. Vendors
We use a variety of vendors to help us provide our Services. This includes companies that provide IT infrastructure and hosting, payment processing, subscription management, analytics, crash and error reporting, customer support tools, and services that help us run surveys and gather feedback. These companies act as our data processors, and we have appropriate data processing agreements in place with them.
We take appropriate contractual, legal, technical, and organizational measures designed to keep your personal information secure.
B. Business Partners
We may disclose your personal information to business partners when necessary to provide a product or service you've requested. If you request a refund through a third party, such as Apple or Google, we may disclose the information necessary to help process that request.
We do not disclose information collected from a child's profile to business partners.
C. Advertising Partners
As described in "Marketing Our Services" above, we may disclose certain personal information to third-party advertising partners to advertise our Services on other sites and apps, and to help measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns.
We do not disclose any information collected from a child's profile, or within the child-directed parts of our Services, to advertising partners.
D. Disclosures to Protect Us or Others
We may access, preserve, and disclose information we store about you if we believe in good faith that doing so is required or appropriate to: comply with law enforcement requests or legal process, such as a court order or subpoena; protect your, our, or others' rights, property, or safety; enforce our agreements or policies; or investigate suspected illegal activity, fraud, or intellectual property infringement.
E. Disclosure in the Event of a Merger, Sale, or Other Asset Transfer
If Funexpected is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of our business or assets, your information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that transaction. Any party that receives your information in this way will be required to honor the commitments we've made in this Privacy Policy.
RETENTION OF YOUR DATA
We retain your information for as long as it is necessary to provide you with our Services. After that point, we may continue to retain certain information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, prevent fraud or misuse of our Services, or preserve our ability to defend against a legal claim within the applicable statute of limitations.
Certain information may not be deleted immediately, such as records maintained in our support systems or other business records we are required to retain.
We may retain information that has been de-identified or aggregated such that it can no longer reasonably be used to identify you or your child.
Any information we continue to retain remains subject to this Privacy Policy.
For how we retain and delete information collected from your child's profile, see "Children's Privacy" above.
SECURITY OF YOUR DATA
We implement generally accepted technical, administrative, and organizational security measures designed to protect your information, and we require our service providers to do the same. These measures include restricting access to your information to personnel who need it to perform their work, maintaining secure operating environments, and using firewall-protected systems.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information:
Access — to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Correction — to request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
Deletion — to request that we delete your personal information, subject to the exceptions described in "Retention of Your Data" above.
Restriction — to request that we limit how we use your personal information.
Objection — to object to our processing of your personal information, including for direct marketing purposes.
Portability — to request a copy of your personal information in an electronic format.
Withdraw consent — where we rely on your consent to process your personal information, to withdraw that consent at any time.
You can exercise these rights by contacting us at privacy@funexpected.org. We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before responding to your request.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Please note that we do not currently respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals sent by your browser.
For how to review, edit, or delete your child's profile information, see "Children's Privacy" above. For how a School can manage or delete student information, see "School Use" above. Residents of California have additional rights described in 'Additional Information for California Residents' below.
EUROPEAN USERS
Funexpected LTD is based in the United Kingdom. We use service providers based in the United States to help us operate our Services (see "How We Disclose the Information We Collect" above), so your information may be transferred to, and processed in, the United States.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the legal bases we rely on to process your information are described in "Purposes for Processing Your Data" above, and your rights are described in "Your Choices and Rights" above, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS
If you are a California resident, you can make certain requests regarding your personal information, to the extent required by law. To make a request, contact us at privacy@funexpected.org:
You can ask what personal information we have about you, including any categories of personal information we have sold or shared with another company for a business purpose.
You can ask us to delete your personal information.
You can ask us to stop selling your personal information.
California Civil Code Section 1798.83 requires businesses that share personal information with third parties for those third parties' own direct marketing purposes to disclose this upon request. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes, so this requirement does not apply to us.
